We are about one week into the new year and the excitement that comes with beginning at 1 again is clearly still in the air. The first few days, weeks, month always seem to be buzzing with activity, hopes, dreams, desires. Everyone is determined to follow through with their New Year's resolutions.
One of the places where it's really evident is, the gym.
I almost couldn't get a spot in my Saturday morning Barbell class. We were squeezed into the studio like sardines in a can. I felt myself getting upset about not having enough room, or not having my regular set of weights. But then I forced myself to shift the focus onto them. The resolution makers, the hopefuls, the determined .. good for them! For me it was just a regular Saturday, a routine. But for them it was the beginning of something new.
I sincerely hope that they all will keep coming to the gym .. even if that means I will have to circle the parking lot for an empty spot or share a bench in the locker room or squeeze into the sauna. I sincerely hope that they won't start going MIA next month or the month after. I sincerely hope that they will keep making themselves a priority and schedule in that me-time firmly into their day, every day. They deserve it. We all do.
I wish all of them and you the time and ability to zoom in and remember what is important. Take a moment or 2 every day, or week, or month to focus on your goals and hopes and dreams.
Zoom in. Focus. And stay the course.
