Senior Safety Tips - Ways To Protect Yourself
Seniors must never forget that they are prime targets for con artists and thieves.
Remember these safety tips and protect yourself from becoming a victim of a crime.
1) When you go shopping, go with a friend or relative: there is safety in numbers.
2) Do not trust holding your handbag in your hand. Put the handbag strap around your body so the bag is in front of you.
3) If you use a credit or debit card to pay for your purchases, only carry the one you will use. Leave the others at home.
4) While in the stores, do not put your handbag down. Keep it strapped around your body. Otherwise, a thief can grab your handbag and walk off before you are aware that it is missing.
5) Do not become distracted by someone asking questions. Thieves often work in teams. Someone can ask you for the time, or where an item can be found and while you're being helpful, the accomplice is waiting until you turn your head and then steals your handbag.
6) If you visit multiple stores, put your purchases in the trunk of your car. Never put packages on the seats, even if you expect to be gone for a short time. Thieves can break into your car and steal your belongings even when you have a car alarm. Car alarms go off so often that we have become accustomed to ignoring them.
7) Always lock all the car doors and make sure the trunk lid is closed tightly.
