Why I became a Nutritarian

What is a nutritarian you may ask?

A nutritarian diet is a plant-based diet, however it does not have to be completely vegan. That's the beauty of this. 90% of calories should come from plants - vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, seeds, whole grains. 10% of calories can still come from meat, dairy, and processed foods.

It basically flips the American diet on its head!

The average American gets LESS than 10% of calories from plants and over 90% comes from meat, dairy, sugar, added oils, and LOTS of processed foods. And OF that less than 10% of plant foods consumed it includes......french fries. Yikes! You take french fries out of the equation and Americans are getting less than 5% of foods from fruits and vegetables.

No wonder we are all so overweight and SICK!

That's why Dr. Fuhrman calls it SAD - the Standard American Diet.

I've read all of Dr. Fuhrman's best selling books and they are all FANTASTIC. They are based on the most recent research & scientific studies from around the world including the famous China Study. If you are looking to start with one, start with "Eat to Live" - it just might save your life.

Heart disease, diabetes, cancer, auto immune disorders, stroke, dementia, obesity, does NOT have to be your future and you can even REVERSE many of these diseases. It is NOT solely about genetics - that's an excuse we use to continue eating poorly - "Well, there is nothing I can do so I'll just have some more pizza, burger, and fries!"..... Not true! What you eat is the MOST important thing to your health.

We really ARE what we eat.

You can change your health trajectory and live a fulfilling life without disease or worry!

I became a nutritarian because I watched my father pass away from Alzheimer's and I don't want that to happen to me or my kids to have to go through that.  My father also had cancer, high blood pressure, and heart disease.  He was LUCKY to make it to 83 but I always wonder how long he would have lived had he ate a healthier diet.  My grandparents lived into their 90s....

So, I'm going to be blogging about my Nutritarian journey and posting lots of great recipes!  Follow along and learn more on Nutritarian Life!

Check out what I ate on Week 1 of my "Eat to Live" Diet! If you are busy and want to read it later, click here to save it to Pinterest.

I've already lost over 6.5 pounds TODAY in only 9 days. Woot woot!

Wish me luck on my journey!

Hi Kimberly Murphy, what we eat affects us in many ways, health is number one of course. I read your blog on Pinterest and saved your pin as well. Thank you for sharing and wishing you all the best in your journey.

Kimberly, although I don't eat french fries, my diet is not mostly plant based, and could do better.  Thanks for the info.
