Delray Beach...Our Winter

Yes, we do have winters here in Delray Beach. It’s hard to believe especially when the temperature is 74 degrees now in Delray and it’s 32 degrees in NYC as I write this.

People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy. Anton Chekhov

But this week we finally got our winter weather. When we headed out for our morning walks along the beach, the temps hovered around 50 degrees.

The problem with winter sports is that - follow me closely here - they generally take place in winter. Dave Barry

A piece of cake you up north might say but for those of us whose daily attire consists of flip-flops, t-shirts, shorts, sunglasses, and a hat, that’s pretty darn cool.

Even in winter an isolated patch of snow (or sand) has a special quality. Andy Goldsworthy

The wind made it seem cooler than it was so we began our walk going into the wind so that our return would be with the wind at our backs!  Lots of strategy involved just for a morning walk, don’t you think?!

Have a warm winter weekend!

I love being able to wear shorts and a t-shirt through winter, there are some days where it gets a bit cold to do that, but for the most part it is wonderful.

Good morning Kathy Streib,

Michael Jacobs is right the weather is always a conversation icebreaker of sorts! Our weather fluctuates quickly in the winter..just be prepared and better to layer clothes with swings as much as 50 degrees in a day! Our skies are usually blue/blue and the sunshine feels so good on our faces..love it!

I completely understand - it's all relative isn't it?  I'm sure it does feel chilly to you.  Sounds like you've got the right attitude to still enjoy the weekend. D

Hi Kathy - we just came back Tuesday night.  We were there since New Years Day and the weather was beautiful.  I know it gets really cold.  We had that last January after New Years.

Looks like we're in for the first snow of 2019.  The forecase has gone from 4-8 inches, to 2-4 inches and today, 6-10 inches.  Who the heck knows what we're about to get.

Hi Kathy Streib - You explain winter in Delray Beach so well! Weather is relative. What I like about the climate of Florida in the winter is that the humidty is relatively low.  Ever since Houston, I can't do humid or should I say...do it well!!!  There is something to offer every one.

I remember one particularly relentless winter here in Sacramento.  I hoped a plane to Florida and visited the Keys.  It was wonderful.

I'm with Dave Barry on this one. Although, we do at the moment have cooler temps in Kona. I think maybe it gets down in the low 70s in the morning.

I've been in Florida a few times and been freezing.

Once at my parents...actually had to wear my winter coat and gloves.

Once on a cruise. We stopped in port at Key West and everyone was freaking out buying sweatshirts at gift shops. It was some record breaking low. I ended up back on the ship in a very sunny corner of the deck while Rick and the kids walked around.
