What You Can (and Can Not) Control

If you're going to sell your home, there are a few factors you can not control and a few you can control

What you can control:

  • First, you can control the condition of your home. Updated homes sell faster. Clean homes sell faster. Consider making small and large updates to important and highly visible rooms in your home such as your foyer.
  • Secondly, you can control the price. Pricing your home too high does not mean you'll get more money for your home - in fact, it means the exact opposite! A real estate professional can help you determine what your home is worth.
  • Marketing.  How will buyers find out about your property? Will they see it on MLS? Will they come across an ad in the newspaper or on the internet? Will they receive an invitation to an open house? Hiring a professional Realtor (R) is the first step in ensuring that your home has an effective promotion plan. 

What you can not control:

This is precisely the same message I give all my sellers... I can't control overall buyer demand, the market, interest rates, economy etc. So I'm always telling my clients we control what we can and we adjust to all the other issues. Great post.
