Several days ago I wrote about what it takes to get into Real Estate. You can see this blog by clicking Here.
This blog was prompted by a past client asking me about getting into the business. I gave her some information on how to get started and last night she texted me with this question..."So, what are the starting salaries like in Real Estate?" In this simple question I found a ton of information about how the general public perceives Real Estate Agents.
I wrote her back and explained that most agents work on commissions only. Her reply was basically Oh, then no thanks. She believed, as many people do, that we agents are on a nice comfortable salary with benefits.
It is interesting that this idea persists in the general public. It could very well explain why clients ask us to do things such as go see many houses just for the fun of it. Shouldn't matter, we get paid either way, right? Ah, no.
Perception is a powerful thing. Years ago our Realtor Association had to stop calling their yearly awards banquet the Million Dollar Club. The public believed all of us award winners were making a million dollars or more. Now we call it the top achievers banquet.
Maybe NAR should go about advertising what agents actually do instead of the goofy commercials they have run in the past. Just say'in!
