Palos Verdes homes owners can start a healthy new year by joining one of South Coast Botanic Garden’s winter sessions of Tai Chi offered on Saturday’s only, or Yoga classes offered on Tuesday & Saturday mornings in January through March. Classes will be held at the Koi Pond Patio, giving Palos Verdes residents the opportunity to exercise in a natural setting instead of a studio environment. You will feel the peace and energy of the Gardens around you. The pace of these classes are appropriate for most individuals.
Tai Chi in the Garden, will be taught only on Saturdays, beginning this Saturday, January 19, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. through March. You will learn this beautiful ancient Chinese practice, with graceful meditative movements that help maintain physical health, well-being and spiritual essence. The classes are held weekly on the Koi Pond Patio and are the perfect way to release tension, increase balance and improve relaxation. All ages and fitness levels welcome. The cost of each class is $12/members and $15/non-members; drop-ins are allowed.
Yoga in the Garden will begin this week on Saturday, January 19, 2019, and will take place on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. through March and will also be offered on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. While enjoying class you will also enjoy the sweeping views and fresh air of the Garden in this outdoor Hatha yoga class. This exercise helps to develop balance and strength in mind and body. Join Veronica Wolkow as she leads you through physical postures, deep breathing, and mindful exercises suitable for all levels. Afterwards, consider a brisk walk or jog around tram road to add to your fitness regimen. You will need to bring a mat and dress in comfortable clothes. In case of rain, you may be moved inside to a dryer location. The cost is $12/members and $15/for non-members ; drop-ins are allowed. The class will benefit the body and mind, and includes live music, sound healing and optional aromatherapy. Reservations for these classes are recommended.
Down Dogs! Kids Yoga will begin this Saturday, January 19, 2019, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Children can also enjoy the many benefits of yoga in a class just for them. Yoga can help them improve focus, reduce anxiety and increase self-awareness. This beginners class will practice Hatha Yoga for kids. More challenging poses will be introduced as the class progresses and as your child learns self-awareness and builds self-confidence. Parents can use this time to get some exercise and fresh air in the Garden. General Garden Admission is required for parents or free with Membership. This is for kids ages 8 through 12 years of age. The cost is $12/members and $15 for non-members.
Goat Yoga will be offered this Saturday, January 19, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can take part in the latest fitness craze and practice your cat/cow, downward dog and child’s pose – in the presence of live goats! Bring your mat, camera, and good humor for an outdoor yoga practice you won’t soon forget, held in a fenced-in area with two furry farm companions. The goats will put a smile on your face and help loosen you up, and if your lucky, might even help you hold a pose. No experience required. Space is limited. Advanced registration required and all participants must be at least 12 years old. To register, please call Visitor Services at (424) 452-0920 Ext. 3. The cost is $30/members and $35/non-members.
