Status of The National Do Not Call Registry - January 2019

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams of Central PA RS334568

Have you been receiving an unusally high volume of unwanted phone calls lately?
I have a spam detector app on my phone, yet daily I still receive calls with either a voice recorded message or sometimes absolutely nothing.

Robocalls are computer generated phone calls usually for the purpose of:
A.) Selling you something
Or
B.) Authenticating that this is an 'in-use' phone line

Please note that due to the current status of the government shutdown, the National Do Not Call Registry phone line: 1-888-382-1222 is not in service.

If you visit the website: https://www.donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx
You will see the following message posted -

Due to the government shutdown, we are unable to offer this website service at this time. Information about unwanted calls can be found on the FTC’s website at: National Do Not Call Registry | Consumer Information

We will resume normal operations when the government is funded.

I think we all would like to have fewer robocalls, it is a nuisance and disrupts the normal business people. Hope you having a great day Maria Sapio.

These awful companies are just buying up local numbers now and ignoring the do not call list.

I can't imagine robo calls ever generating any business, but yet I still get many such calls a week.

Hi Maria.  I'm not sure how good this service is even when the government is staffing it.

Hi Maria... I don't believe the volume of calls is higher because of the government shutdown... I've had more calls in the past before the shuthown. They seem to come in batches in my experience and it doesn't matter what no-call list you are registered on.

Good morning Maria. Yes I have had an increase in these calls. Just one more consequence of a government down. Too bad.

Good morning Maria Sapio,

I'm glad Peter Mohylsky, Bucket List re-blogged your post as I missed it. I've been getting about th the same amount of annoying calls and feel this Department has been basically ineffective. I'm registered and it hasn't stopped them from calling.

Hi Maria,
I've never been convinced the DNC List ever worked.  They have their loopholes.

Now that I am retired I take the phone calls and spend as much time as I have available discussing the "product."  Then when it is time for the close I let them know I am retired.... Wasting their time is what I consider payback!

I have been registered since 2011 and lately I have had a lot of calls...several a day. I hope it was due to the shut down and I see less now. Fingers crossed.
