Both of us are fond of Champagne. Many years ago, we spent several days in Reims, the capital of the Champagne Region. One of the most memorable meals we had was accompanied with a different Champagne for every course.
Recently we had an occasion to celebrate that called for Champagne. Jane, owner, of Carpinteria Wine suggested Taittinger Brut La Française. It is a non-vintage champagne, a blend of 30 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes from several harvests of perfectly ripened grapes. It has received great reviews and rated from a low of 90 to a high of 93.
The winery notes, "(this wine) contains a higher proportion of the finer Chardonnay grape than other nonvintage Champagnes, giving elegance and freshness to the wine."
Robert Parker who gave it a 93 rating commented; "It is a pure, fresh and well-structured Brut that seems more elegant, complex and round than the Brut Réserve. The persistent finish is clear, fresh and well structured, with refreshing lemon flavors and a nice grip."
It would be great with oysters that both Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR and Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD mentioned at early this morning, in Dorie's Foodie Post.
Cheers! Have a great weekend!
