A winter storm watch for Western Union County goes into effect at noon on January 19th and continues through 6 pm on January 20th. Weather experts predict as much as three to five inches of snow accumulation as well as thick sheets of ice around the county. Wind gusts could reach up to 35 mph. That makes travel on the roads treacherous. Because of this, Mayor Brindle and Greg O'Neill, the Director of Public Works, went on Facebook live this morning to give some Westfield winter parking and snow removal reminders to make the roads a little safer for everyone out there.
Westfield Winter Parking Reminders
For Westfield winter parking, when snowfall hits three inches or above, no one is allowed to park on public streets in most areas of the city. Street parking can resume only after the snow has stopped falling and the entire road has been plowed. Alternate side of the street parking goes into effect when snow levels hit three inches or higher. If this happens, you may only park on the even numbered side of the following streets:
- Cacciola Pl
- Copperthwaite (from Elm to Clark only)
- Downer St (400 & 500 block)
- Lenox Ave (300 & 400 block)
- Livingston St
- Ross Pl (park anywhere on the street, but only on the odd numbered side, do not park on the even numbered side here)
- St Paul St (200 block only)
Westfield Snow Removal Reminders
For your Westfield snow removal reminder, residents cannot blow or shovel snow into the street. With temperatures expected to dip well below freezing, snow mounds in the road quickly turn into rock hard bumps. This wreaks havoc on cars and trucks. Westfield residents have 24 hours to clear up their sidewalks from any snow accumulation after the storm ends. After that, tickets will be written up.
Avoid any unnecessary travel during the winter storm watch. It's a great time to watch the game on TV, binge-watch your favorite Netflix programs, or catch up on your reading. Check in on your elderly neighbors during this time to make sure they're OK as well. And, please, keep your vehicles off the streets. This will help all of us weather the storm much more easily.
