Monday Musings: Do You Listen With Your Heart, Or Your Mind ?

The next time you listen to someone, client, family or friend...listen with your heart and not your mind! You will be amazed at the results.

One of the most important qualities in our opinion, when it comes to being human is the ability to listen with your heart, rather than your mind. Many of us listen to someone's problems or needs, and instantly offer good solutions to the problem.  As we listen our minds go into overdrive and we cannot wait to offer our brilliant solutions. At that point, we are not listening.

One our friends was distressed over a real estate issue involving close aging family and plenty of drama and trauma, involving the siblings.  She was in tears, stressed out of her mind.  We both listened attentively, till she was out of words and out of tears.  We did not say a word...just listened.

When she was calm, she had questions regarding encroachment, value, and loans. There was not doubt in our minds that she needed the information that a savvy real estate agent could give.  We suggested a lunch meeting with one of our luxury real estate clients in town. We all met at a restaurant with a calming ocean view, and then went to the property in question.

In a following meeting, our client did a presentation with no focus or reference on her prowess as an agent or her success.  It was solely focused on the property, the possibilities and what needed to be done to make it salable. There is no question in anyone's mind that she will be getting the listing!

Recently in our extended family on both sides, there has been a good deal of trauma and drama as well as rifts that have resulted in not speaking to each other.  In one instance, one of the family members wanted us to take sides...All we did was listen to the hurts, the accusation and the blame.  We offered no opinions and took no sides.  We have stayed in good communication with all parties.

The other sad event occurred this past week with the other branch.  We all spoke yesterday, and mostly we listened and listened...When the tears were gone, we offered our point of view without any persuasion or claim of expertise or wisdom.  As a result, we all got closer and laughed! Good feelings abound.

The next time you listen to someone, client, family or friend...listen with your heart and not your mind! You will be amazed at the results.

CAN YOU STATE HOW YOU ARE DIFFERENT AND BETTER THAN YOUR COMPETITION IN LESS THAN 30 SECONDS?

ABOUT:  Luxury Real Estate is a high stakes game. Commissions are substantial! We help luxury real estate professionals get to the listing table more often and win listings more frequently.  If you want to be the market leader, the personal or company brand that your target market thinks of first and refers most often, you need an Elevator Statement to accelerate the process.  We can get you there!

Your Elevator Statement is a succinct and persuasive summary of your extraordinary promise of value, your unique selling proposition.  In a time-starved world the attention span of your target market is shrinking.  To instantly convey what sets you apart from the crowd you need to be able to answer EACH ONE of these 3 questions in less than 30 seconds.: 1) What Do You Do?; 2)  How Do You Do It?, and;  3) How Are You Different?.  Can you state how you are different and better than your competition in less than 30 seconds?

Watch the video above to see and hear how we do it.

Goes back to...the best decisions are made from a position of strength...when emotions run high...that needs to be  quelled to sort things out logically.
