How is America's Got Talent Like Real Estate?

How is America's Got Talent like real estate? Many ways. Real estate is a profession where skill plays a major roll. If you don't have the right combination of skills, you may lose to a competing Realtor. One bad performance with a client can get you cut from future opportunities, and high praise from others may fill your pipeline for years.

AGT has started a new series called America's Got Talent: The Champions. On the Champions, previous contestants from all over the world are competing for "best in the world" rather than in one country. The Russian winner is there. The Belgian winner is there. The Australian winner is there. The British winner is there. The Spanish winner is there. The US winner is there. Many of the contestants were first runner-up, second runner-up, third runner-up, etc. Now, they are competing at a much higher level with the world's best competitors.

Here are a few things I've noticed this round:

One, everyone has to be their very best the first time they hit the stage. It's not OK to have a bad day if the goal is to go on to the next level of competition. A bad day equals elimination.

Two, these competitors cannot depend on past success to bring future winnings. They have to bring their acts to a new level every time they hit the stage. I would hate to be a judge. Everyone of these competitors could be the best in the world, but past victories do not mean future success.

Three, the acts have to bring something new to the competition. A great act last year, the year before, or five years ago, won't win this competition. These same judges have already seen them go through the competition in previous seasons. They know what they've done in the past, and they're looking for something new, exciting and unique.

Four, every competitor has to bring the "Wow Factor" in every performance. There are no do overs. There is a line of competitors who are going to be the best they've ever been. Everyone wants the title, and everyone will do what they have to do to win it.

It is an incredible competition. I've seen things that I've marveled at and I find myself thinking, "that's a winner", until the next act shows up, and the process starts over. In business, you have to be your best every time you show up. If you're not, the competition right behind you will be having a great day, and you will lose.

Just because you were a superstar a year or two ago doesn't mean anything today. The field is constantly changing. You need to continually up your game, learn new and more sophisticated techniques for business and be the champion in the game.

Don't be afraid of learning new things. I remember my grandfather retired when his company computerized. He was lost after that. His primary reason for living was his job, and he loved it. He didn't have to become a computer wizard, he just needed to learn how to use a computer to do his job. He refused, retired and died.

You only have to be 10% better than the competition to be a success. It may be how you communicate that separates you from the competition. It may be your marketing, staging or photography that separates you. No matter what that wow factor is, you can use it to leverage your market. AGT Champions is all about being just a little better than the competition. Are you?

Being our very best in real real estate is certainly like making that huge first impression like Americas Got Talent contestants do. Interesting blog but nails the point.

It takes more than one performance to be recognized as a superstar, don't you think, and how is a performance defined? Is it based upon one time performance or multiple times or another criteria?

Superstars have a consistency of reliable performances. Could you be a superstar in one area and not in another? So, it depends, doesn't it? Superstars are confident fearless performers that can perform anywhere under any circumstances and accept the outcome of their performances.

One factor that is consistent with any performer is; "It's Showtime"!
