Do You Dream?

Services for Real Estate Pros with Great American Title Agency

Over the years this blog has talked about leading, listening, planning and being SMART.

Yes GOALS matter---short term, long term both matter. Goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely.

We also need to dream?

Ken and I dream regularly and we dream big. When we dream there is no limit—we dream about our family, careers, what retirement will look like, where in the world we want to go and what we will be known for when we are gone (our legacy)?

This past weekend we were dreaming out in the desert.

It amazes me how life plays out. Ken and I are dreaming and this last weekend’s book was The Last Arrow by Erwin Raphael McManus.

Chapter 2, entitled “Save Nothing for the Next Life”, on page 28, Erwin says “…You have to know what matters; you have to know who you are; you have to know what your life is given to. For in the end, the one thing where you must never settle for less is the calling…on your life, the purpose…the impact he designed you to make in the world.”

Isn’t that interesting! We’re reading and dreaming and I am reminded that it is all about not holding back.

Ken and I are not the same people we were on July 17, 1971, and much of our transformation has happened as a result of our dreams. There are not many people who dream most adults simply live a life of quiet desperation after their formal education. They are on auto pilot. Wow, that seems like such a loss to me.

I have been asked, “So, how do you and Ken dream?”

First, we set time aside, independently and as a couple. We ask ourselves the “why” questions. Questions like, “Why should we ________? How will we get there? What does the end look like? Who will this impact?”

You get the idea. Dreaming is asking the who, what, when, where, and how questions.

Dreaming people do not simply wish they also plan, they consider the facts, gain impressions, and understand it’s going to take time.

So back to the beginning question, do you dream? Our hope is that you do and some day you will accomplish all those big dreams for yourself.
