Bear Mountain Ranch Golf Course: Chelan, WA

"Golf is not a sport.  It is a way of life."

On the southern hillside above Lake Chelan is Bear Mountain Ranch Golf Course, one of my absolute favorite golf courses in the country.  I've done a lot of traveling and have played a lot of different courses but can honestly say that Bear Mountain is an absolute favorite of mine.  And, I love that it is so close to my home in Wenatchee, Washington.

Bear Mountain is 35 miles north of Wenatchee on Hwy 97.  It takes about 45 minutes to get there by automobile.  Bear Mountain is an absolute pleasure to play because it is in such a beautiful location and nearly every hole has an amazing view high above beautiful Lake Chelan, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state of Washington.

Do you want to know why this is a wonderful golf course?  No matter how good or bad your game is on any given day, you can't help but be in awe of the beauty and how lucky you are just to be there.

The staff at Bear Mountain is always extremely friendly like they're sincerely glad to have you there.  Sometimes I find a chauvinist attitude at other golf course but not at Bear Mountain. They love us senior women golfers.

Bear Mountain has a full service pro shop and club along with plenty of other guest services. It doesn't have a full restaurant, but they have a very nice cafe on the lower level, overlooking the 18th green. It's a great place for a snack at the turn and a cold beverage during or after your round.

If you make a morning tee time, you can go wine tasting and have dinner at one of the many dining options in the area.  Chelan is chock full of restaurant choices (and some 30 wineries). O ne of my favorite choices for after golf is the Karma Vineyards which is a 7-minute drive down the hill and around the corner from the golf course.   The unique thing about Karma is they an amazing selection of food choices and specialize in champagne tastings, not just wine.  Complement a day of golf at Bear Mountain with the champagne tasting and some appetizers (or a full meal) and you have a day made in Heaven.

Your opening sentence about golf being a way of life, is so true for many I know, Carol!  I've never golfed, other than pee-wee golf. But, I understand why you do it!

While not being a golfer, myself, Carol... I know people for whom golf is a way of life. As for me... the good dining options would be the real draw!

Hi James Dray
It looks like it might be a while before we are back on the course.  It's snowing again here this morning, with more in the forecast.

That looks like such a beautiful course, I can certainly see why it would be your favorite, especially since you don't live too far away from it.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat
Although I do enjoy the challenge of the game itself, it's really about the social aspect for me... being with other people.  Happy Sunday!

Hi Carol Williams - I certainly understand the phrase "Golf is not a sport. It is a way of life". My dad was an avid golfer and our vacations centered around areas with great courses.  One of his favorite vacation spots was Torrey Pines near San Diego.  Another favorite...Pebble Beach!  I think it is wonderful that you have a favorite so close to you in Bear Mountain Ranch Chelan WA.

All our golf courses in Sedona are challenging but the most exclusive is Seven Canyons. See pics here

Hi Sheri,
I would love to play more golf in Sedona.  I've only played Oakcreek and that was so fun with the amazing surrounding scenery.  I have no recollection of how well I played because I was enthralled with the scenery.

Carol, what a beautiful course and so much to offer nearby. If you have a bad game you can just opt to stop at one of the wineries :)
