OK, so I've really never thought about a blog before, and I thought I'd give it a try. So, I'm sitting here marveling at this wonderful view I have of Eugene from my home office window and I thought, heck, let's do this blog thing. OK, so the pint of organic beer doesn't hurt my confidence, either, haha. "Organic beer?" you say? Well, I am from Eugene after all.
Boy-oh-boy, I've had an interesting time...the market is slow but I know some people are making money (I, however, am not one of them -- YET). So far in 2008, I think I've made more money on broker tour drawings than I have in commissions. OK, not really, but it feels like it sometimes. I've had some interesting experiences so far, like the client that I met out in the boondocks, driving through the snow to show a property and come to find out they are only qualified for about 1/3 of the asking price! Oh, and how about the person who wanted to buy an in-park mobile for about 11,000 which was a referral, meaning after I pay out the referral fee and my company takes their cut I end up with, oh, a negative balance! How does that work again? Oh wait, then there's the person who didn't want to ride in my car because I had the "wrong candidate" sticker on my bumper. Or the person who wants to be a real estate investor but has no money? Or maybe the innumerable people from various urban centers who call and want to "buy some land in Oregon"? hahah, I just love this job! It is rife with interesting stories.
All in all, though, I've got to say that there are no lack of characters (buyers, sellers, and other real estate professionals) in this business.
