Maybe it's time to "re-frame" New Year's resolutions

One of my go-to lenders Mark Hairston with Supreme Lending always offers a different perspective for us to consider and embrace which might impact the results we receive.

On a recent email he suggested instead of setting goals and making resolutions for the New Year, try this slightly different idea. Imagine attaining that goal and ask yourself how you got there.

This twist is similar to Noah St John’sAfformations” in which he talks about turning affirmations on their head! When using this idea in goal setting, instead of affirming what we think want in the future, use the power of our inquisitive mind to picture the result and then ask the question, “How did we get there?”

Think about it...our minds naturally want to find an answer and in that answer might lie a more certain path to our goals.

By imagining goals in this way, we’re picturing more than just the goal; we’re picturing the result of the goal.

Mark has a point. Go ahead and re-frame your New Year’s resolutions. Imagine you’ve already succeeded and ask “How did I.......?”

Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR love this way!  Years ago a bunch of my broker friends and I used to have a yearly 'vision' meeting in early January. We all wrote out checks in the amount we wanted to make that year. Then one of us would collect them and hand them back to us in our Dec meeting.  And low and behold just about all of us made or succeeded our vision. Been doing this ever since with other visions too. Very effective. Kind of the same thing you're suggesting - love it!

So funny you mention this, because in my first year in the business, my broker asked how much money I wanted to make.  I just threw a number out there that I thought was possibly attainable but a little scary...LOL..but I hit it!  I'm a believer.

I love it, Dorie! Funny but, someone asked me how my resolutions were going the other day - I explained that I don't call them resolutions but, goals instead...complete with a plan for each of them. I mean, why set goals if we don't have a plan to go along with them, right?!
