Did you know that Blairsville GA is home to 3 stunning waterfalls?
They are Helton Creek Falls, Trahlyta Falls & DeSoto Falls, which is located just outside of Union County. All of these waterfalls are easily accessible with viewing areas, parking and a short walk/hike.
DIRECTIONS: From Blairsville, take US 19/129 S for 11.5 miles to left on Helton Creek Rd (the first paved rd on the left past Vogel State Park). Go approximately 1/2 mile on the paved road and then continue on gravel for about 1.5 miles, stay right at the fork to small parking area. There is a sign for the trailhead on the right.
ABOUT HELTON CREEK FALLS: The lower falls drop over a 30' ledge into a pool below. The second, upper falls drops at least 60'. It's about a 2/10 mile hike to the falls and the grade does change abruptly. Beautiful and worth checking out!
TRAHLYTA FALLS AT VOGEL STATE PARK
DIRECTIONS: From Blairsville, take 19/129 S 11 miles to right into Vogel State Park. They do charge for parking.
ABOUT TRAHLYTA FALLS AT VOGEL STATE PARK: The falls are located on the north side of Lake Trahlyta, named for a Cherokee maiden who is buried just a few miles away at Stonepile Gap. You can access the falls via a 1 mile trail loop, it's short, steep and worth the effort.
DIRECTIONS: From Blairsville, take US 19/129 S for 15 miles to the DeSoto Falls Recreation Area on right.
ABOUT DESOTO FALLS: The DeSoto Falls Trail is about 1.5 miles long with 2 waterfalls. The upper falls drop 80' and the lower about 20' . Both can be accessed by the trail from the parking lot. DeSoto Falls was named for the Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto because a piece of his armour is believed to have been found in the area.
All 3 Waterfalls are in close proximity to one another and all 3 can easily be accessed in a day.
