KITCHEN REMODEL IN PARK MODEL TRAILER
Joyfully Growing Blog is back with another kitchen remodel! This time around, we chose to remodel a park model trailer. With some careful planning, and lots of hard work, this kitchen turned out amazing! The original kitchen layout and design choices were underwhelming. Dated cabinets, and low quality RV appliances made the kitchen feel uninviting. A large blocky peninsula and overhead cabinets ate into the middle of the room. This intrusion made the--already small room--feel even smaller.
Since this was a particularly small space, we wanted to make use of every last inch of real estate this kitchen had to offer. The main goal for the project was to incorporate full size residential appliances including: farmhouse sink, dishwasher, and a french door refrigerator. To accommodate the new layout a full gut job was required (read: Demo Day!!).
To give you an idea of what we were working with before we started the remodel, take a look at the before pictures!
We wanted to keep the design simple, so we chose to paint all the walls and ceilings with our favorite off-white (Sherwin Williams: SW 7008 Alabaster), and bring in pops of color with a copper sink, and butcher block countertops.
The resulting transformation from beige to a warm soothing white turned out just as well as we could have hoped!
The hardwood butcher block countertops are made from maple. We wanted to avoid a glossy finish to keep the wood to looking as raw and natural as possible. Butcher block oil was used to seal the wood while retaining their natural look and color. The butcher block oil worked perfectly to create a minimal matte finish that still has great stain and water resistance.
The kitchen did not previously have a dishwasher, and this was a must-have! Space was limited, so we opted to use a narrow 18” dishwasher.
The 30” induction cooktop doubles as extra counter space when not in use. We chose a cooktop with flat capacitive buttons instead of raised physical knobbs. This kept the counter top looking flat and sleek. Instead of taking up extra space with a conventional oven, we chose to install a built in microwave / convection oven combo so that you can still bake!
The huge counter-depth french door refrigerator complete with built in Ice Maker makes this RV kitchen feel like a gourmet kitchen!
And of course, the kitchen wouldn’t quite have the same inviting, residential feel without the large coffee bar complete with espresso machine!
Thanks for reading along, we hope you’ve enjoyed another Joyfully Growing Blog renovation project!
