If you've just joined ActiveRain, you'll notice different categories of membership:
That's the unpaid version of membership. Look at your profile page or your blog sidebar and you'll see a little white cloud on a blue background along with the word "Rainer".
A key thing to note: your blog posts have a banner "MEMBERS" across the top right. That means ONLY ActiveRain members can see your posts. That means the general consumers CANNOT see your posts. ActiveRain does not allow them to be searched by the bots, so if you're writing great consumer content, it's invisible to the target audience.
To get that visibility you need to move into the next category of ActiveRain membership.
This means you either pay for membership OR you have accumulated at least 500,000 points. Hit the 500,000 point milestone and ActiveRain grants you Rainmaker status without paying further. As a Rainmaker, instead of a Rainer's cloud you'll see a blue circle with a raindrop in it.
As a Rainmaker you've got a choice with every post: make it PUBLIC or MEMBERS ONLY? To be frank, if you're going to make every post MEMBERS ONLY, then why pay for membership? On the other hand, blog content to the public that they need and you can gain business. The Return on Investment can be outstanding.
Ambassadors are a subset of Rainmakers. You'll see an Ambassador label, an orange circle with a star inside of it.
In a nutshell, we're here to help (not that MOST ActiveRain members won't help because they will).
Basically Ambassadors have been selected by ActiveRain management to help keep an eye on things, answer questions, bring attention to AR Staff of issues, help run contests, support testing when asked, etc. It's NOT a paid position.
There's not a certain point level that gains the designation, and they haven't to my knowledge added new Ambassadors in years. And yes, if you click on the ActiveRain Ambassadors on the bottom right corner of the page footer, you'll get the roster of Ambassadors. And you'll also notice that many of those names have been missing for quite some time. Just like the rest of the ActiveRain community, Ambassadors may disappear.
And to clear up a couple of misconceptions:
1. Being an Ambassador doesn't give you feature fairy status. There's no handing over of some ceremonial wand with the orange Ambassador badge.
2. Nor do we have access to the SMITE button. The ability to penalize or boot people from the Rain is strictly reserved for ActiveRain staff.
What we do have that can sometimes help is access to an ActiveRain Ambassadors group that is monitored by one of the support team.
Ben Kinney owns ActiveRain.
Bob Stewart is the primary staff member (Bob@ActiveRain.com).
Support: there's not a huge department, but they're there. (Support@ActiveRain.com). There is no direct line to call support. Also try asking in Q&A. If it's a HOW TO type question, someone will probably be able to answer.
Any questions? Ask An Ambassador. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help!
