Jim Brumback has been my go to home inspector for the last 14 years and at time you think of relationships like this as a marriage. Jim came to me because he knew I was selling a lot of new homes to California investors and had recently been licensed in Oklahoma for home inspections. He asked me to lunch to see if he could solicit my business and explained that he was a long time commercial banker who got tired of the business and had gotten ASHI certified. Jim seemed level headed and detailed and I liked the baking background thinking that he could understand the money at stake when home inspections go crazy and boy does that happen too much.
Jim had also gotten attached to a national company and the thought of getting a professionally type report with detailed pictures appealed to me. Jim turned out to be excellent to work with and our relationship has continued to this day. What is great about Jim is that investors out of California buying new homes in Oklahoma City do not always understand that even when new, new homes are built by human beings subject to error. On the other side of this equation my builders who a lot of business with us want confidence from the investor so Jim sends the initial report to the builder for what needs to be fixed, then the builder can do repairs and then Jim comes back to certify that all work is done.
Jim also has to deal with investors over the phone and I have to say he is about the calmest person I know because some of these folks are pretty demanding and his constant soft voice never gets the person on the other end of the line the excuse to raise their voice in anger. Inspections are often the bane of a real estate transaction working out so when you find a gem like Jim you so much appreciate his professionalism not only in the inspection but in his gentle handling of the client. My life is much easier because of it.
