Sally and David Hanson have challenged us to do something good and keep doing it throughout the year. The good they are looking to have us do is something we don't regularly do and is a stretch and meaningful to others and to ourselves in some way. So here we go. I have long been an animal advocate and have fostered, contributed to any number of animal groups and even volunteered with a rescue group in New Jersey and a shelter in Massachusetts. I still promote these animals and currently have four of my own now, but this isn't new.
What is new this year is my effort to help those who for whatever reason can not afford to keep their pets any longer. Sometimes it is simply a matter of economics, sometimes health related and sometimes it is a landlord who decides it no longer acceptable for tenants to keep theit pets in his or her property any longer. These are really tragic situation and I am committed to helping the people keep their animals for as long as they are able. I make every effort to do what I would want done for me. I support these people by supplying food for them and their pets. I help elderly or ill people walk and care for their pets and I talk to landlords or help tenants with pets find other accommodations if landlords won't change.
This matters to me and certainly to those I am able to help. Doing something in a little way is important and makes me happy and productive as well.
