Best Golf Courses in the West Michigan Area
I must confess that the weather outside has me thinking SPRING! With no chance of a groundhog seeing anything in this mess, thoughts turn toward sunnier days and fun times outdoors. With that in mind, let’s talk the great options in West Michigan for golfers to pursue once we can see the grass again! Because truly, what better way is there to spend an afternoon with your buddies (and maybe escaping work) than out on the course, whether you’re a scratch golfer or a 25 handicap. With so many great options out there, here are some of our top picks!
Best Membership Value:
Briarwood Golf Club- 2900 92nd St SE Caledonia, MI 49316
Broadmoor Country Club- 7725 Kraft Ave SE Caledonia, MI 49316
First off, that’s right- membership at either course INCLUDES membership at the other! That’s 45 holes of golf (27 at Briarwood and 18 at Broadmoor) for a very reasonable membership fee. Currently a couple can hold a membership (including cart fees!) for right about $2,000 for the entire season. They also have single, family, junior, and senior rates available; all very well-priced as well. We have played in leagues at Briarwood and love the course layout. Staff here is great as well!
Best Public Course on a Budget:
Arrowhead Golf Course- 2170 Alden Nash Ave NE Lowell, MI 49331 (616)-897-7264
We LOVE Arrowhead! The course provides a challenging design that’s appropriate for all skill levels and comes with some great views as you make your way around the course. Normal rates (depending on time of day, your age, walking or riding, and 9 or 18 holes) vary from $10 to $38 per person. They also are frequently featured on Groupon- we got a fall deal in October of 2018 for 18 holes with cart for $18 each! You can’t beat that. Staff here is friendly and laid-back as well.
Best Views for Your Round:
Thornapple Pointe Golf Club- 7211 48th St SE Grand Rapids, MI 49512 (616)-554-4747
This is a great course to play overall, but you will come back for the views! The course sits on the Thornapple River, and bends through three different untouched natural wetlands as you play. Rates vary here depending on the time of the season, so call ahead for cost and tee times. Thornapple Pointe also features an awesome new year-round LiveGolf Studio where players can play on state-of-the-art simulators and enjoy a beer and snacks with friends all through the cold winter months.
Best Course for New/Inexperienced Players:
Scott Lake Golf & Practice Center- 911 Hayes Rd NE Comstock Park, MI 49321
I mean, it says it RIGHT in the title! PRACTICE! The people at Scott Lake run a great facility and are invested in helping you get to the next level with your golf game, no matter what that may be! In addition to 3 beautiful 9-hole courses (also great for beginners who can’t do a full 18 yet), Scott Lake features a large practice area with a driving range, practice greens and a practice bunker to hone your skills before heading out to the course. Scott Lake comes highly recommended!
No matter where you choose to play your next round in West Michigan, we hope this short list of our favorites was helpful to you. Believe me, these courses are near and dear to our hearts for good reasons. We hope you will find as much enjoyment playing them as we have over the years. Best of luck in your pursuit of the beautiful game!
