YouTube Thursdays - Taking the Shy out of Camera-Shy

YouTube Thursdays - Camera-Shy? Here's an idea.

Just because you can't face the camera doesn't mean you can't interject yourself, and your personality, into your videos. The biggest advantage of marketing with videos is the power to make connections - and build relationships. And that's one of the big goals in business, right?

However, if your on-camera appearance is forced, awkward, or lacks authenticity, it's going to fall flat. Comfortable and confident people put others at ease.  Last week, we encouraged you to spend some time looking inward - at the essence of who you are as a person. Embracing your uniqueness and knowing your strengths - and what brings you joy is critical.

All of us in business should be honest, ethical, and hard-working. What do you bring to the table that is different?  Are you a passionate pet-lover and rescue advocate - sell that first, real estate should be secondary. That sentence will likely raise a few eyebrows. Seriously though, and to reiterate, the power of video is in building and strengthening connections.

Therefore, this week, we'll show you how to interject yourself in videos in a manner that is both comfortable and natural. We're featuring Brian England who sells real estate in Arizona. Not only is he a nice guy, but he enjoys hiking and playing tennis. He's also told us numerous times that he is extremely camera-shy. Yet, look at this short video clip. There's no awkwardness showing here.

Imagine a series of videos showing Brian playing on various tennis courts at the neighborhoods he sells. He can either do a voice-over, or text slides, telling the viewer, "Today, I'm testing out the courts at the ____ neighborhood in East Valley, Arizona. He can then feature a few short video clips of the homes, and perhaps a club house with sparkling pool. Final shot, a pan of the the tennis court, with the message:" If you're looking for a home with a neighborhood tennis court, call me today. I know where to find them." The closing slide is a still of Brian with his contact information.

Brian can also do a series of short videos showcasing hiking trails in his market. A short video clip of him hiking with friends, or alone, is all the on-camera presence he needs.  When we are in familiar and comfortable environments, doing what we enjoy, it's easy to feel more at ease.

These two video series would help Brian connect with people, in a natural manner, who share his interests. And, Brian also sells real estate.

Much like Anita Clark 's Facebook Fridays, we encourage you to subscribe to each other's YouTube Channels - and take a minute to "like" or leave a comment. You can also add your own YouTube Channel in the comments below, and ask for subscribers. Be sure to subscribe back though - it's quid pro quo!

ViewHomes™ grew out of our passion for nature, beautiful surroundings, and peaceful environments. Starting together in an urban environment, over the years we've gravitated towards areas with smaller populations and less density. We now enjoy our lifestyle in a rural environment, but with close proximity to metropolitan areas where we appreciate all the amenities of fine restaurants, shopping, and an easy drive to an international airport.
Living in ViewHomes™ is like having “elbowroom for the soul”.

Congrats on  a great feature with Brian showing himself playing tennis. Videos can be engaging or boring depending on the way their done.  Brian has captured the essence of who he is and that appeals to viewers.

Believe I fall under the camera shy category ... tend to be too critical of myself.

Think it may be time to rethink this whole thing. Thanks for the great tips.

Great ideas!  I appareciate this type of video because it's easy for Brian England

since he's a great tennis player!  There are so many ways to incorporate video into things you love doing.  Great job Brian and Debb!

Clever idea. This definitely beats sitting in front of a camera and trying to look natural. Now I need to learn how to play tennis.

Great ideas to follow! I never liked being in front of the camera, and you just told me what can be done in front of a video camera. Starting to write different scenarios, it's never too late to get going!
