The Search for the Perfect Kitchen Trash Receptacle

Real Estate Agent with Lyon Real Estate BRE #00697006

You know how some products annoy you in life but you continue to use the item because it works, figuring the irritation factor is just part of the deal? No? Well, you must live a much more charmed life than I. Actually, when I think about how my husband handles these things versus myself, well, I'd have to say my tolerance factor must be a lot lower. Things typically will bug me to the point where I will finally take action; whereas, my husband would go to his grave with it.

For years, I've had a hate relationship with my trash can. That stupid lever that pops up when opening the kitchen trash can was horrible. Its hinges would always get stuck into the trash bag upon removal of the bag. You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: The Best Kitchen Trash Can.

Hi Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents, I have a Simplehuman trash can as well but bought mine at the Bed, Bath & Beyond. Didn't even know Target had them.

Beth Atalay I am constantly amazed at what Target carries these days. I remember when Target first started, as an off-shoot of discounted items that did not sell at Dayton's in downtown Minneapolis.

That's a lot of work for a trash can, Elizabeth... I hate seeing them out in the open regardless of how "slick" they might look. All of my trash cans in the kitchen and bathrooms are hidden in a cabinet!

I keep an open bin under my sink.  I have always loathed that it takes up room under there that I could better use for something else.  That's even though I don't know what that something else would be.  I don't like the ones that sit out on the kitchen floor, even though they are convenient.

Elizabeth, I have one that looks like this, and when you walk by, the lid pops up, and usually scares my guests.   It is nice though, when you have your hands full.

Elizabeth, Yes we all have different tolerance levels and that's funny about observing your husband's tolerance level for trash cans.  I prefer under the sink or the sliding under the counter trash/recycle bins near the sink.  Out of sight for me.
