TAR WINTER MEETINGS - AUSTIN, TX

The Texas Association of REALTORS® Winter Meetings began on Friday in Austin. I captured this view looking out the window from the Hyatt Regency looking out at Lady Bird Lake, a river-like reservoir designed in 1960. Whatever inspired the architects that engaged both the skyscrapers and the landscaping on the banks of the lake must have represented something unique in their history in time. As you can tell by my photograph some construction building technology is defined by a steady continuum.

EDUCATION & TRADITION

When it comes to maintaining a Texas Real Estate License, agents are rooted in education with continuous education. While there are many new agents in the business, there are many who were born long before Lady Bird Lake and her skyscrapers were erected. According to NAR (National Association of REALTORS®) statistics, there were 1,368,530 Texas Agents, members of NAR as of November 2018. Over 1,000 agents were at the Winter Meetings and the numbers can change as the meetings continue. It is a proud feeling to be counted.

WHAT GOES ON AT WINTER MEETINGS

Agents attend various meetings that may include Budget & Financing, Professional Development, PAC Nominating Committee, Board of Director meetings, Membership Users Group, Professional Standards Training, Networking, Political Involvement Committee, Diversity Committee, Professional Development Committee, Membership Benefits Committee, Real Estate Panel Forums, Global Committees, Real Estate Center Advisory Committee, Global Forum, the Reception, Leasing & Property Management Forum, Education Subcommittee, Risk Reduction Forum, Technology Forum, Issues Mobilization Committee, TEXAS Faculty Meeting, Housing Initiatives Forum, Strategy Committee, YPN Committee, Government Affairs Committee, and many other business meetings. Some are closed sessions to committee members only and others open sessions for all.

*The Opening Session Real Estate Panel consisted of Tray Bates, John Baen, Jim Gaines, and Lawrence Yun. Each panel member shared "their perspective on the current and future state of Texas, U.S., and global economies." Their words were very encouraging for the State of Texas!!!

*TAR TEXAS REALTORS Program

UPCOMING CLASSROOM COURSES ACROSS TEXAS IN MARCH

  • 3/4 - "Building a Team to Grow your Business" (Plano)
  • 3/5 - "7 Things Successful Agents Do Differently: A Proven Business System (Dallas)
  • 3/6- "Digital Marketing: Social Media" (Austin)
  • 3/7 - "Zero to 60 Home Sales a Year" (San Antonio)
  • 3/8 - "Power Up on Smart House Technologies" (Houston)

FROM MY PERSPECTIVE

Just as the architectural windows in my photograph are detail oriented, I find a shared value with the attendees at the TAR Winter Meetings who would spend time and money to make continuous educational improvements and work hard to become more proficient and efficient in being detailed oriented in all aspects of the business' we run.

Endre Barath, Jr. - Of course! I reached out to her more than once. I know she wanted to meet. She must be very busy. Someday, I'm sure we will connect.

I'm glad you remember that visit to Austin. It's a 3-4 hour drive for me to get there.

There are many people here on AR that I hope to meet one day. Yourself and Diane included.

Hi Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - Lots to do during the TAR winter meetings.  You have a wonderful view from your Hyatt  hotel suite and have captured it brilliantly.

I think you hit the nail on the head.  The most important thing is the networking and face to face communication.  Have a lot of fun!

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - Thank you, so much! I was pleased with the photo results too!

Yes! Networking may sound basic but I still think it is one of the most important steps to take in building a business relationship. We are not paper agents. We are not talking heads on video. We are not just words on paper, a text, or inside an email, or a voice.

If you want people to get to know the REAL you, you have to let people meet you in person.

I still attend our Oklahoma meetings although I am out of leadership now. Austin would be my choice for a Texas meeting.

Good Morning Joe Pryor - The next TEXAS REALTORS CONFERENCE is September 12-15 in Fort Worth. The conference will be at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Our Key Note Speaker is Walter Bond, pro basketball player. His best-selling book, All Buts Stink, is about adversity, "you'll learn that change is good and success is up to you if you'll just quit with the 'buts'."

If you can make it, we should plan to have an AR Meet-Up!

Oh, great information, Patricia! You know, Dorie's Geno was in the hospital last week so, I'm sure that's why you couldn't catch up with her. She's a gem and I'm sure would love to meet you.

On another note, while I was reading your post, I was reminded of a question that a client who is getting her license asked me last week. She wanted to know what the most important thing to me is in the real estate business. I said, "My Clients, of course!" Then I added, "If you're talking about the business itself, it's customer service and education."

I've been a big believer in both and I love finding other agents who share that belief to send my referrals to. If you stay educated and take excellent care of your clients, everything else seems to fall right into place, doesn't it?

Happy Monday!

Hi Patricia -- thanks for your perspective on Austin and the T.A.R. meetings.  I wrote a longer comment about N.A.R. that is better in a different forum.
