Everyone always says "you'll just know" when you are looking for your forever home. In my case, this was the farthest from the truth. My husband, 2 dogs and I began out growing our starter home and figured it was time to start looking to upgrade. We truly love our town. We made many connections there and it had an undeniable sense of community. So when it came to house hunting, our desired area was pretty limited specifically to a 3 block radius. Sure this sounds crazy, but itss your forever home and location, location, location.
With our very specific requirements for our forever home, the houses we looked at were far and few in between. I think it was only 2 we looked at before we found "the one".
Since we made some great friendships ins town and my husband being a volunteer fire fighter, we always were in the know to what was happening around towns. This paid off big time for us because a friend of a friend was listing their home, in our desired area! Luckily we jumped on this opportunity, the only downfall was, I didn't like the house!
Touring the house for the first time was a bit of a let down for me. This was not what I had envisioned for my new, forever home. It seemed like everything was wrong (in my eyes) with the home. See the problem was was that we had renovated our starter home. I'm talking brand new top of the line kitchen, new bathrooms, and a completely finished basement. So I guess we can say I was a bit spoiled with our first home and I just naively expected to get the same in our forever home. As the tour continued I just kept telling myself to keep and open mind and this was the perfect location with a large lot and it was where we wanted to be.
We ended up buying the house and I cannot be happier that we did. The house is transforming into a home with renovations here and there and all the memories we are creating. I'm glad I kept my priorities in check and stayed true to what it was we wanted for our family.
This sure wasn't love at first site, but it turned into real love.
