I was working in my office the other day and my mind began to wander. I began to imagine a place that was free from strife. No crime. A place where we didn’t need money. Where there was plenty of food, all organic, fresh water, clean air, no pollution.
I even began to imagine that people from all walks of life could live in peace and harmony. It wouldn’t matter if you were a movie star or a millionaire, a ship’s captain or a farm girl. Where scientists and cabin boys were all equal. A place were the women were beautiful, the men honest and sincere.
Imagine if the sun shined every day? Where you could swim in the morning and barbecue at night. As my mind wandered still more, I began to envision the possibility of inhabitants that where skilled enough to build houses from bamboo, fashion furniture from tree bark and even weave new clothing from palm leaves.
I smiled when I imagined all of the necessities we need for modern life like toiletries, soap and, make up could be made from the locally grown fruits and vegetables.
I have often been described as someone with a wild imagination. But when I imagined that the residents could create a radio that was powered by a coconut I had to laugh.
Where could such a place exist? Perhaps deep within the rain forest or on some uncharted tropical island someplace?
Just when I thought I had escaped the humdrum of everyday life, when I thought I had found a way to create nirvana. I heard a voice calling from the other room. “Turn that crap off, it’s time to take the garbage out.”
