You Have to Kiss a Lot of Frogs, Before You Find Your Handsome Prince!
This is the popular moral of the fairy tale The Frog Prince by the Brothers Grimm. The princess is encouraged to seek out true love, and yet in the process may have to endure some ugliness along the way. There can be a moral here for home Buyers and Sellers of homes as well.
From the Buyer’s perspective it may take viewing quite a few homes before “true love” is discovered. Each time a Buyer views in a house, inside their mind they are putting it through a “kiss test”. Could they fall in love with this house? Would it meet the needs of their family in terms of price, location, floor plan and condition? Could it become a home for them?
Just as the princess evaluates consciously or unconsciously the attributes of a potential prince, the Buyer evaluates the benefits and drawbacks of a potential home.
From the Seller’s perspective it is like being the gentlemen in waiting. Numerous Buyers view the home and conduct their own personal “kiss test”. The gentlemen may feel rejected if the princess kisses him and then moves on to the next one. Unfortunately the home Buyer may be viewing the Seller’s home like an unattractive frog and for whatever personal reasons has decided that that home isn’t the one for them. Just as in love, rejection can hurt in the home selling process too.
