Snow Capped Mountains in the distance: a rare sight in Los Angeles... The last time I remember seeing Snow Capped Mountains was about 22 years ago...

www.endrebarath.com

Diane and I  relocated from Boston MA to Los Angeles CA and when we arrived it was El Nino. Rains we have never seen before. The volume was so bad that I used to drive Diane to work to her office in Downtown Los Angeles. This was before it was called DTLA. This was during the time I was forced to re-take my  Real Estate Courses and license, because California did not have reciprocity with Massachusetts.

I remember naively Diane was of the belief system that California does not have four seasons. I told her do not get rid of your winter coats etc. Gratefully she listened and the first three months she used them and thanked me every time.

So here we are 22+ years later same brutal cold spell, same volume of rain. Now they do not call it El Nino, they came up with a new word "climate change". The result is the same it is very cold and large volume of rain.

So when I was at the stop light of Venice Blvd and La Cieniga Blvd I had to take these pictures and share with you. Yes, Los Angeles has four seasons, it just so happens that the seasons are milder and not as pronounced when it comes to cold and warm.  I know some people will not be convinced because they made up their minds and do not want to be confused with facts. Honest the snow is not photo shop.

One of my absolute favorite things is to see snow on mountains. We have snow-capped mountains all winter long here, though less snow in the valley and the city. Locals actually start planting their gardens based on where the snow melt is on what part of the mountain. -Kasey

P.S. I lived in Santa Clarita during El Nino. The college I went to was kind of a hilly campus and there was a period of time that it was so flooded we couldn't leave because the road was a big huge lake of water. It was like we were on an island. I was supposed to go to a dance with a boy from a college down in Irvine and I couldn't due to the rains and flooding. :-) -K

Kasey & John Boles  I remember it well because that is when we moved to Los Angeles and Diane was afraid to drive in the rain and the flash floodings... closest to that type of weather has been this Winter...Endre

It was my first year in L.A. as well! I grew up in Idaho and was used to harsh winters full of piles and piles of snow, but nothing like those rains and flooding of El Nino Endre Barath, Jr. I think I didn't leave campus for weeks. I still remember the lake of water on the road. We were safe above on our hilly on-campus housing, but, you know, I missed that dance date with the boy in Irvine and all, hahaha! I lived in Santa Clarita until 2003 and there was never anything quite like that year of El Nino. -Kasey

What a beautiful sight, Endre! I would never think of seeing that in LA either.

Love the story about the coats - I'm sure she's thrilled that she took your advice. 50's is chili enough for a coat for me too!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400  the only difference is that in the summer the grass is mostly brown, since watering can be cost prohibitive and if you follow the rules it never really gets 100%green due to water conservation rules... vs in the winter when we have good rains then it is very green:))Endre

Glad you asked Endre Barath, Jr., lol! The guy I thought maybe I'd marry decided to marry someone else, so I decided to move to Portland and get a Master's in Spanish, but before I set foot on campus, I decided to marry John instead and moved to Tacoma, where he lived at the time. Plus, I'm a born and raised Idaho girl. I knew I'd wouldn't stay in California forever. :-) K

The last week we have not had to look to the mountains or hills but simply out the front door. Enjoy the view and have a great weekend.
