Think Thin Thursday ~ On This Day it Begins with Your Heart

Real Estate Agent with Florida Supreme Realty SL514814

The Heart is a fascinating organ which is uniquely capable of providing the utmost of strength and the tenderness of Love in its perfect place, the Center of our bodies.

It works constantly to keep us alive and is barely perceptible while doing so until it begins to fail. It beats to the activity, and emotions we sense and feel every day of our lives. Today we can enjoy our heart shaped candy, cards and cut out shapes. Celebrate your Love!

While hiking in Alaska many years ago we had set up our tent, ate dinner and readied ourselves for the following day's adventure. This was a long journey with several weeks of excursions into the wilderness totaling eight months or so. The further we were from civilization and its constant man-made noise the louder my heart beat seemed to be. At night in the silence it seemed to lose its rhythm somehow. Exhausted from the daily hikes through the Brooks Range and throughout the state the non-rhythmic beats each evening became worrysome until one night. I mentioned it to my friend and he said he too had the same sensation. We determined that the unusual pounding sounds were not from our hearts alone but included the sounds of each others too. That deafening silence at night above the Arctic Circle was now a most interesting noise, both eerie and comforting at the same time.  The Beat Goes On!

Your heart's day-to-day health may not be a frequent concern, however, Valentine's Day may be the ideal opportunity to stop and think about it if only for a moment.

Good afternoon Kevin J. May such an important message....keep that heart healthy.... strength training and the aerobics that come with doing lifting is a blessing... I was there at 5:00am for me and trained someone else at 6:00am... and now I'm thinking about and looking forward to tomorrow morning's workout....  my eating is heart healthy every day.... very low fat, no grain, low carb and high protein.... very little dairy...

I can imagine a World that only needs to accomplish 20% of what you do. We don't need to move mountains, only ourselves.

Hello Kevin -and that change/event can occur in a moment...and yet it's not just like "that" but the result of history and other "solvable" habits.

What an interesting and lovely post. The beat of a heart even if it is ticking clock comforts creature, kittens and pups, and humans.  A

The heart is such a powerful thing in many ways, we definitely need to take care of it to have a healthy life all the way around.

We can do without a lot of things Brian although a heart isn't on that list. A healthy one makes the trip so much sweeter.

Carol, I wasn't sure if this response was for Uncle Alan May  or myself, however, the "phenomenon" is not easy to duplicate with the noise pollution we experience every waking moment.

Thump, thump, thump. Having grown up in Alaska, I know the quiet you speak about. Wonderful experience in my book. Have a great day, Kevin.

Conversely it's actually what we don't hear or think that's truly amazing John.

I love this post on so many levels, Kevin. Being a former open heart nurse, I've always been fascinated with this organ - it's less complicated than the brain but, so vital to every other part of our bodies. Taking care of our hearts is key to longevity as one day, our time will run out - I don't want it to stop any sooner than it already is! I joke but, prevention is everything.

Loved the story about the camping trip - I've noticed sometimes in the quiet of my own bed, hearing and feeling my heart beat. I have wondered how we can go all day long and never hear our hearts or feel the beat of our hearts - there's just so much 'noise' all around us.

I love the thought to pause and think about your heart on Valentine's day - get that heart check-up scheduled! Like changing the batteries in our smoke detectors during time changes each year, heart health should be a priority on the day that love is in the air!

Have a great week, Kevin...

More like treks than camping we were self sustaining above the Arctic Circle in Winter being dropped by bush planes and walking 200 to 300 miles at a pop back to civilization. You learn a lot about yourself under those conditions Debe. Medically I often feel as if I'm under a microscope although my heart is hanging in there. I learned to listen to it a long time ago however only began hearing it at the time of this journey some 37 years ago .
