Every year, the Maui-based 501 © 3 nonprofit spearheads the Ebb & Flow Arts Show in an effort to foster and promote multicultural and multidisciplinary education, contemporary music and art on the island. This year’s show will be held on March 3rd at 3 p.m. at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center and will feature Ignace Jang on the violin, Sun Chan Chang on the 'cello; and Maui-based artist Robert Pollock on the piano. Jang is the concertmaster of the Hawaii Symphony and teaches at the University of Hawaii in Manoa.
This year’s program is centered around a partnership with South Korea and one that includes a musical cultural exchange. Recently, Dr. Shinhee Park, president of Veritas Musicae in Seoul, invited American composers Sarn Oliver, Peter Swanzy, William Anderson, and Robert Pollock to create short piano pieces based on Korean poetry for performances in Korea and on Maui. In exchange, The Ebb & Flow Arts Show commissioned Dr. Park to compose a trio for violin, 'cello, and piano.
