Playing Hopscotch

HI Michael Jacobs - I am not sure I remember how to play hopscotch... That is embarrassing!

Oh, I loved playing hop scotch, Michael - drawing the chalk squares with flowers by each number was half of the fun of the 'game!'

Isn't it funny the memories that come flooding back when prompted - by someone else's pondering?! Everything in life seems to have a parallel - ponder on, Michael...

Good morning, Michael. Loved playing hop-scotch as a young girl and jumping rope! Great analogy to life in general and I continue to be amazed at the strange and wonderful turns your mind makes as you ponder.

I had to look up "Lois McMaster Bujold" as I was not familiar with her.  And, now I may have to look up hopscotch as well because I've never played.

Find out what you're best at, and develop it,

Hello Michael,  I never play hotscotch growing up in the country and not the city,  Interesting.

Good afternoon Michael - I do like that comparsion and I ponder here.  Don't get bogged down on the bad squares.  Leverage the good ones and get someone else to jump through the ones you can't.

I remember both playing it myself and teaching my kids. I remember both drawing it in dirt with a stick and on the driveway with chalk. I'm that old. LOL

I remember finding just the right rock to be your marker being very important too.

I'll have to see if any of my grands have ever played.

Michael Jacobs - I haven 't thought about Hopscotch or any other similar sidewalk game I played as a kid, such as Sky Blue. It was fun to play the games on the sidewalk because it encouraged other kids to join in, adults to step aside and let us play, teamwork, balance, counting, and physical exercise.

Michael Jacobs - Sky Blue was just another variation of Hopscotch. On square #9, we drew a semi-circle and drew a line between the words Sky and Blue. When the hopscotch player finished nine, they threw their rock on Sky first and jumped over the Sky, still standing on one foot, then jump backward back to one and then repeat when the person got to Blue. It was fun and really helped with eye, hand, and foot coordination and balance too!
