Playing Hopscotch.

Don't wish to be normal.  Wish to be yourself. To the hilt.

Find out what you're best at, and develop it,

and hopscotch your weaknesses,

Wish to be great at whatever you are.

                                                                   Lois McMaster Bujold

While the rain took a break, I noticed a display of artwork on one of the sidewalks while walking in the neighborhood.  Take a pause.  Ponder-worthy?  Drawing comparisons between hopscotch and real life let alone real estate?  Sure.  Why not?

While this image is not an actual photo it offers a glimpse into the creativity and joy that can be found while you are out and about in your neighborhood.

I don't claim to be an expert.  Not in hopscotch.  Or of real life.  In fact as I try to refresh my knowledge of the game of hopscotch since I can't recall ever playing it.  As I did some not-so-in-depth research I find it has been around for centuries.  Popular in many countries.  For both genders.   I wonder if hopscotch has any relation to real life.  On second thought.

Sidestep.  Straddling the line. Home safe.  Hmm maybe there's something to consider here.  Maybe some comparisons.  Maybe not.  More pondering.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - sounds like a plan but, of course, it will need video or it didn't happen.

Roy Kelley -- your link is exactly one of those I used to "research" the topic as well.

Sharon Lee - there are many things in my past too...most will remain there.

Oh, I loved playing hop scotch, Michael - drawing the chalk squares with flowers by each number was half of the fun of the 'game!'

Isn't it funny the memories that come flooding back when prompted - by someone else's pondering?! Everything in life seems to have a parallel - ponder on, Michael...

Good morning, Michael. Loved playing hop-scotch as a young girl and jumping rope! Great analogy to life in general and I continue to be amazed at the strange and wonderful turns your mind makes as you ponder.

I had to look up "Lois McMaster Bujold" as I was not familiar with her.  And, now I may have to look up hopscotch as well because I've never played.

Hello Michael,  I never play hotscotch growing up in the country and not the city,  Interesting.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - I actually wasn't aware of the rules although I assumed some existed.  Learning something new each and every day.  I guess.

Debe Maxwell, CRS - pondering can do that.

Nina Hollander - some skill sets of my youth have been lost it seems.

Gabe Sanders - I "found" her through an Internet search for hopscotch quotes.

Sally K. & David L. Hanson - it's a quote that works for so many and for so many different reasons.

Will Hamm - me neither.

Good afternoon Michael - I do like that comparsion and I ponder here.  Don't get bogged down on the bad squares.  Leverage the good ones and get someone else to jump through the ones you can't.

I remember both playing it myself and teaching my kids. I remember both drawing it in dirt with a stick and on the driveway with chalk. I'm that old. LOL

I remember finding just the right rock to be your marker being very important too.

I'll have to see if any of my grands have ever played.

Sharon Tara - I saw another piece of sidewalk artwork today --- the chalk was in a basket ready for the kids to start playing.

Michael Jacobs - I haven 't thought about Hopscotch or any other similar sidewalk game I played as a kid, such as Sky Blue. It was fun to play the games on the sidewalk because it encouraged other kids to join in, adults to step aside and let us play, teamwork, balance, counting, and physical exercise.

Thank you for taking me down Memory Lane!

Michael Jacobs - Sky Blue was just another variation of Hopscotch. On square #9, we drew a semi-circle and drew a line between the words Sky and Blue. When the hopscotch player finished nine, they threw their rock on Sky first and jumped over the Sky, still standing on one foot, then jump backward back to one and then repeat when the person got to Blue. It was fun and really helped with eye, hand, and foot coordination and balance too!

Yes! We learn something new every day. May you have a wonderful day and find some exciting things to ponder!
