The Orpheus parade in Mandeville is coming up on Friday, March 1st. It begins at Ashbury Drive and Highway 190 intersection. It then goes west on Highway 190 where it will merge with Highway 22 through the city of Mandeville, La. It will then turn southeast on West Causeway Approach. You may follow the street all the way to the intersection of North Causeway Blvd. It then will go under North Causeway following the eastern approach.
The Orpheus parade began in 1987. At that time 11 businessmen set out to build a new Mardi Gras krewe that would bring a first class parade to the Mandeville area of the Northshore. Now over 30 years later, it is the Northshore’s premiere men’s carnival krewe. Orpheus is known for their handmade Pineloon throws (which are a pinecone on a gold double base, sprayed purple/green/gold with gold glitter.)
The krewe will always roll on the Friday before Mardi Gras down the traditional Mandeville parade route pictured below. Their official call and response is, “Hail Orpheus! Hail Yes!”
Wayne Turner, Broker/Owner of Turner Real Estate Group in Mandeville, will ride in the Krewe of Orpheus this year. Be sure to come out and partake in the carnival fun!
