Glen William Bell

Glen William Bell Jr., was born in Lynwood, California back in 1923. After graduating from the San Bernardino High School in 1941 he joined the United States Marine Corps serving as a cook during WWII.

After being discharged he opened up his first hot dog stand in San Bernardino in 1948. In 1952, he sold that hot dog stand and built a second one where he served hot dogs and hamburgers. It was after opening up his second restaurant that he started selling something else (more on that in a moment). He opened up three more restaurants in Long Beach between 1954-1955, concentrating on just one food item.

He sold that business in 1955, opening up another restaurant that is still in operation to this day. in 1978, he sold the restaurant chain to PepsiCo for $125 million in stock.

Now, that business he started in 1955 was Taco Bell. We have one less than a half of a mile from our current home.

Until tomorrow give someone the free gift of a smile.

Good morning James Dray ,

What an interesting post. There are many Taco Bells in Austin but with so many local business offering excellent Mexican cuisine it amazes me they could compete.

Interesting history of Taco Bell, James.  That is my sister-in-laws favorite place to eat which, honestly, I find a little sad.  LOL

Hi James Dray - My father-in-law was a friend and neighbor of one of the contractors who helped build those early franchises. He even did some work on the interior setup. BUT I did not know the rest of the story! Thank you.

James,

And we have many of them in California.  I don't think we have ever been to a taco bell.  We are too finicky!  LOL
