What's that you say nothing to do June 6th,7th or 8th. Then Take a short trip north of Toronto and partake of the outstanding performances of Music, Poetry and Song during the second annual Blue Bridge Festival.
The festival takes it's name from the Blue Bridge, a provincially designated Historic Site, that is located between Sutton and Jackson’s Point, built in 1912 it spans the Black River where it joins Lake Simcoe.
It takes an entire web site to adequately describ the events and happenings that take place over the three days. I could hardly do it justice here so I will just mention some of the highlights such as the Gala opening celebarations at the Gerogina Arts Centre Friday June 6th at 8:00 pm [$20.00].
On saturday join take a Sound Walk with sound artist Victoria Fenner, a unique experience of listening on the Nanabush Trails, the pride of Georgina Island's First Nations. To open up the soul and hear sounds Victoria will take participants on a 'soundwalk", a creative listening experience . She will also talk about how to make the sounds into sound poems and environmental music. [$25.00]
There are two creative writing work shops on Saturday one of prose and poetry and the other songwriting [$10.00].
Also on Saturday you can join my friend Magoo at the Childrens Corner (my grand kids think he is just the greatest). Join the flotilla to Travel the Troubadour Trail lead by opera singers and Magoo as they paddle down the black river (bring your canoe or kayak for this event) as you approach the Blue Bridge you will be met by Scottish Bagpipers and first nations Chippewa Drummers.
Don't have a canoe then Travel by Horse and Wagon [$2.00}as you tour heritage sites in both Sutton and Jacksons Point, visiting some of the stages along the route and ending at the Troubadour Stages [$10.00] at Sibbald Point Provincial Park.
Join in the festivities at the Gala Saturday Night Concert featuring the Festival Orchestra and York Regions finest Choir's.
The Sunday Matinee Concert is followed up by a Strawberry Social to wrap up the weekend
