I had a discussion with a friend and ActiveRain member just the other day. We were discussing "intelligence" and the difference between "higher education" obtaining degrees, and "common sense" which we know is not common at all.
I explained that I know many people with only a high school education that are FAR smarter than many people I know that have 4-year degrees, a master's degree, a Ph.D. and a JD degree.
I shared a story about a friend who graduated summa cum laude. For being so smart, and graduating with the highest distinction, my friend did not know what summa cum laude meant. Perhaps my friend did not read that book. Do you see the irony?
Book Smart
We've been asked to have some FUN with the Book Smart photo provided by the host of this challenge, Endre Barath, Jr.
I am not an artsy-fartsy person. Never have been. I've never had a real, true "appreciation" for art. That's okay with me. I do love to read books though. I love to read. I love to learn. I've never grown old or tired of reading and learning.
What is a "Know it All"?
No one person knows everything. Yet, I bet we have all met that person who thinks they do.
Do we need to read books and enjoy art to have a full life and be successful?
I do not believe so. I know too many people personally and know of many highly successful people that only have high school educations.
Books are available to everyone. We don't need educational institutions to learn.
Some of my biggest learning experiences came from LIFE. Nothing I knew or any degree could have prepared me for those life lessons.
Fun with the Photo - My Story
This photo is an artists depiction of a former male model who read few if any books. His skill with books was to walk with stacks of books on his head, which he "mastered". One unfortunate day, while on the catwalk, he tripped, fell, and injured his right eye. The injury ultimately led to the demise of his modeling career.
This caused him to look into a career in real estate. Why not? Real estate is easy. Anyone can do it. We all know that - right?
He enrolled in an online real estate pre-licensing school in the state of Utah. It remains unclear if there are any required books in this school. We do know the school adopted the ActiveRain colors evidenced the color of the school jacket and tie!
Today, this Realtor is very successful. He continues to sport the GQ model look and wears the eye patch as a badge of honor. He does not need the eye patch. He just wears it well and thinks it is cool. He "learned" that it is a conversation piece and opens the door with many people for him to tell his story about why and how he became a real estate agent.

Spoiler Alert: The story he tells is slightly different than mine. His story explains why he started smoking cigars and when he started teaching courses in real estate.
