Once upon a time a little girl learned to read and was able to take herself to places she could only imagine in the books she had, and the ones she hoped to have. When magic happens it is usually the byproduct of imagination. And so as that little girl grew and became aware of her world as she knew it, the focus changed and she read less and did other things where attention was demanded.
That girl played instruments, rode her bike and often wondered what would be ahead. At some point after begging her parents seemingly forever, she adopted a puppy she named Dusty and he was the light of her life.
As the years passed and the girl went away to college, she began to read again but largely for her studies and it wasn't that much fun. During this time, her interests expanded but her dog died and she was in a new place with new people far from her home.
After college, the girl, now on her own found a job and place to live. She was in a new state and away from both her family and her friends from college. Because she had the time and the interest this girl began to read again and visit places she never knew and didn't ever expect to see.
Life happened and at the worst possible time the girl met a puppy who needed and home and was in a large open yard with big dogs who also had no home. And so Mitchell, the name the girl gave the puppy because it wasn't one she would ever use for a child, was now part of the family.
At some point the girl had a chance to travel to a place she had only read about and she chose to go rather than get new things for her bedroom. And it was at that point in that girls life: my life that I knew travel mattered and reading made it so.
