Should we stop having children?
Question from the new Congresswoman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) who questioned whether people should stop having children because of what she believes that climate change is the most important issue facing us today and that humans are the most carbon footprint polluters. Well let's take a look at what America will look like if we stop having children. Below is what I think it will look like.
First, delivery rooms would start laying off staff, not a big problem for now because hospitals are understaffed and they could be used elsewhere.
Fast forward to 2024. Daycare and pre-schools start to close, laying off staff.
2028: teachers stop hiring and start laying off staff due to lack of students in the first to fourth grades. Home foreclosures start to rise due to unemployment. Recession begins
2032: All grade schools close, massive unemployment and depression begins.
2036: All high schools close, even more unemployment and home foreclosures, home values drop 50-60%.
Increase in early retirements strains the budget beyond ability to pay. Reduced payments to those on social security also but doesn't help the overtaxes budget.
2040: What colleges are still operating close due to lack of students. Infrastructure not being updated due to lack of funds, home values further decline to only 10% of 2019 value. Many homes vacant, homelessness is beyond the imagination.
Farmers not able to get their crops to market because of a lack to truck drivers and poorly maintained roads.
Many business that catered to the young close due to lack of business, no children.
Electric, oil, solar panels and gas deliveries are also adversely effected. Country in on the verge of collapse.
