How to Get A fishing and Hunting License In Alaska

You can now buy your license online and print your license at home! You can also purchase licenses for more than one person in the same transaction (great for families, fishing and hunting lodges, and fish processors). 

Rules

Residents under the age of 18 do not need to purchase a hunting, sport fishing or trapping license. Non-residents under the age of 16 do not need to purchase a sport fishing license but they do need to purchase a hunting and/or trapping license.

Resident Under Age 10

  • No hunting license
  • No big game locking-tag required
  • No harvest ticket/permit
  • Use supervising hunter's harvest ticket/permit

Non Resident Under Age 10

 

  • Hunting license
  • Big game locking-tag required
  • No harvest ticket/permit
  • Use supervising hunter's harvest ticket/permit
  • Must be supervised by a licensed hunter at least 16 years of age and be under direct, immediate supervision of that hunter.
  • Use supervising hunter's harvest ticket/permit
  • Bag limit will go towards supervising hunter

Residents Age 10 - 17

  • No hunting license
  • Big game locking-tags required for applicable species
  • Does not require state duck stamp

Non Residents 10 and Older

  • Hunting license
  • Big game locking-tag required

Required for both age groups

  • Harvest ticket/permit required
  • Has own bag limit

For Fishing Resident Under 18 or Non Resident Under 16

  • No fishing license
  • Harvest record card required

How Long Is A License Good For?

Licenses are good from the date of purchase through December 31 of the license year. The exceptions to this are the resident trapping licenses which are valid through September 30 of the next calendar year and the nonresident fishing licenses which are good for only 1, 3, 7 or 14 days.

 

Do I Need A King Salmon Stamp?

King Salmon Stamps are required for anyone sport fishing for anadromous king salmon except for residents under the age of 18 and nonresidents under the age of 16 and persons who have these license types: resident blind fishing license, resident low income license, resident senior license, and a resident disabled Veteran's license.

 

Do I Need A Big Game Tag?

Resident Licensee: If you plan to hunt brown/grizzly bears or muskox a big game tag may be required. Please see the current hunting regulations for details.

Nonresident Military Licensee: Yes, if you plan to hunt brown/grizzly bear, goat (free), muskox, or sheep (free). See definition of a nonresident military licensee and more information on qualifying for military licenses.

Nonresident / Nonresident Alien Licensee: Yes, if you plan to hunt brown/grizzly bear, black bear, bison, caribou, deer, elk, goat, moose, bull musk ox, sheep, wolf, or wolverine. See definition of a nonresident or nonresident alien licensee.

Victoria, I went last year to Alaska to fish, and booked a charter, they took care of it.  WAS WONDERFUL!
