Open houses announced for GA 400 express lanes

The proposed toll lanes are being presented to the public in a series of meetings over the next few weeks.

GA 400 could become the next metro Atlanta highway to get toll-based express lanes. But first, GDOT is opening the process to public comment in a series of open houses throughout the corridor in late February and early March.

The express lanes, which will be similar to those currently open on I-85 and I-75, will span from the North Springs MARTA station in the south to McFarland Parkway in the north with construction set to begin in 2021.

GDOT projects that the project would drastically reduce daily delays coming down from Forsyth County by 2030. The project will cost and estimated $1.2 billion.

Like the other express lanes in the metro area, access would require a Peach Pass. These lanes will eventually connect into the proposed top end I-285 express lanes scheduled to begin construction in 2023.

These open houses come during a lengthy environmental review process that began in 2017. They are designed to take public opinion into account in the planning of the new toll lanes.

The open houses are scheduled for:

February 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 4025 Windward Plaza, Alpharetta.

March 5, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Forsyth Conference Center, 3410 Ronald Regan Blvd., Cumming.

March 7, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, 1075 Holcomb Bridge Rd., Roswell.

March 12, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the City Springs at 1 Galambos Way, Sandy Springs.
