Today is March 8th, 2019 - International Womens day.
And I thought this would be an excellent time to sit down and really look into the power and capabilities that woman have- with a book I was gifted called I Am Malala.
Malala Yousafzai is a 21 year old young woman with a passion for women's rights and fair treatment. At the extremely young age of 12, Yousafzai began advocating for women's rights for those around her and almost instantly became a target on the Taliban Hit List. In early 2009, when she was 11–12, she wrote a blog under a pseudonym for the BBC Urdu detailing her life during the Taliban occupation of Swat, who dismissed her feminist claims and tried to silence the young girl with threats and warnings.
That same year, the young Yousafzai and two other young women were cornered and shot in the head whilst riding a bus in the Swat District in a assassination attempt, leaving two dead but Yousafzai in critical condition.
However, much like her fight for womans rights, Yousafzai fought to live and made a complete recovery despite being in critical condition and unconscious for quite some time.
" Weeks after the attempted murder, a group of fifty leading Muslim clerics in Pakistan issued a fatwā against those who tried to kill her. The Taliban was internationally denounced by governments, human rights organizations and feminist groups. Taliban officials responded to condemnation by further denouncing Yousafzai, indicating plans for a possible second assassination attempt which was justified as a religious obligation. Their statements resulted in further international condemnation. " - Wikipedia/IAmMalala
Yousafzai was gifted Honorary Citizenship in Canada and created the Malala Non Profit Fund that works to guarantee women have 12 years of safe, free and quality education. Touched by her work and beliefs, Angelina Jolie was the first to donate 200,000$ USD of her personal money which sparked the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to commit 4 Million USD to the Malala Fund as well.
And as of 2018, the Malala Fund has partnered with Apple Inc to expand their radius of assistance to Inadia and Latin America to help as many women as possible.
Inside of Yousafzai was a driving force to make sure that ALL women are taken care of and that the seed to their successful future were sown a young age. And she did it with absolutely nothing but her words and her will. She was scared but she turned that fear into the driving force that allowed her to conquer and fight. And as women, the fight will be brought to you, but you have the tools and the will to fight back and destroy the walls society put up around you.
International Women's Day is every day that you open your eyes and take a stand.
It is every day that you face your fear with courage.
It is every day that you take charge.
It is every day that you better yourself.
I believe that there is a piece of Malala's tenacity and strong-willed love in all of us. The Mother Earth bares the fruits that allows us to flourish. God gave Adam Eve to complete and ward away his sadness and fill his soul with longing and meaning. Women are amazing and magnificent in so many different ways.
And I believe its time to start seeing that in yourself and believe it. The truth will allow you to flourish as you are meant to.
