Thought For The Day - What Gayle King Said

By
Real Estate Agent

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

A few days ago, Gayle King, co-anchor on the CBS News Morning Show, said if she hadn’t ended up being a journalist, she would have been a Realtor or a Psycho Therapist, because she likes looking at houses and listening to people’s problems and telling them the answers. When you stop to think about it, aren’t many real estate professionals like that?

Hi Myrl - I can't say I have ever thought of comparing myself to Gayle King. Oprah doesn't even have my phone number for starters.

Not a day goes by hardly that I don't compare myself to a psychotherapist. Just the other day some mother called (who is a Realtor) and wants to represent her son to buy a home, but he doesn't respect her and sometimes is a no show. She is not taking a commission. What? I told her to dump the kid, and refer him to a professional and get a referral fee; it is not worth sacrificing a relationship with her son to "try" to be a Realtor.

Bartenders are another that could fall into the same category as Realtors and Psycho Therapists, Elizabeth.

Realtors wear many hats, and psychotherapist is definitely one of them. I love the advice Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents gave (see above.)

Yes that is a huge part of being a Realtor, just like being a Bartender now as to Oprah not knowing Michael Jacobs  number, in all fairness she knows it but Michael needs to answer the Blind Numbers...just sayin, Endre

Good mornign, Myrl Jeffcoat if you're a "shrink" you have it made in the real estate business.... if it's not the buyers and sellers, it's dealing with agents that will sharpen those psych skills....

I am convinced that real estate salesmanship, bartending and psychology could all fall under one college roof, Barbara!

Hmm, I wonder if a college would give me credit for my work in Real Estate towards a degree in psycho therapy, haha.

If they won't, you could likely find it easy to work as a bartender.

Myrl being a Realtor many times requires being a Therapist as well, and I do run into a psycho Realtor from time to time

A psychotherapist could probably make a great REALTOR® because they could  figure out what a buyer wanted before they did. Would save a lot of time.

Ha, I so agree with this thread of comments. We do wear many hats and being a therapist is often at the top of the list.

Hi Myrl:

We do, indeed, wear many hats and the role of therapist is a key one, espeically once you get into a transaction. I've found my training to be useful!!

Wait! Aren't Realtor® & psychotherapist one in the same, Myrl?! LOL I do a LOT of psychotherapy and in fact, did so with two different clients today!

I wouldn't change what I do for the world though - never a dull moment!

I have always believed that having similar abilities and personalities as bartenders, Psychotherapist, Moms/Mothers, caring nature, etc. help an agent
get through that initial first defense door quickly.  I know I have broken through the defense door easily because of my years in psychology and astrology...also, the spiritual aspect - always gave me patience and some other necessary/important  business qualities.
