Inspirational Thoughts for 3/18/19

by Patricia Feager

Have you ever watched "World of Dance?" Or any professional dancing? The dancers move strategically with sharp focus, poise, determination, and they are at ease with the confidence of their skills as a dancer. A professional dancer spends years preparing, training, and practicing to perfect the art and makes many sacrifices before dancing in a competition. Their eyes are not on other dancers or any distractions that may be going on at the time. A pair of dancers has perfect posture and they learn how to position their bodies to the beat of the music with their partner. Never, in my entire life (except for Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding on ice) did I ever see an all-out attack on another while dancers danced. A World-Class dancer is the Master of moves and they glide with easy to achieve their very best.

A skilled Negotiator in real estate or business has very similar qualities. Even though negotiations can be intense, they keep their own emotional energy in check. When it comes to business, "perception is the reality!" One of the key elements in negotiation strategy is the power of balance. The dance of successful negotiations involves a superb balance of power between the parties to achieve success. Whenever there is a balance of competition, there has to be a balance of commitment, the balance of knowledge, a balance of time, effort, tenacity, and balance of skills.

Yesterday I was rewarded because of successful negotiation skills and it feels so good!

Like dance itself, it has its switches and turns. The reward is to be able to perform at the right time when it's needed the most. Great work out there.

Hello Patricia - I may not be familiar with "World of Dance" or others of its genre but comparisons are interesting when they can be drawn to real estate or real world/real life. So many analogies.

Endre Barath, Jr. and Michael Jacobs - Dancing is what I dreamed about long before I wrote my first Santa Clause letter asking for ballet slippers. I never did get them, nor the ice skates or dance lessons. Even worse, I was never asked to go out dancing. But I have a great appreciation for the dancers and ice skaters. Today, I watch and learn how to apply what they learned to my own negotiations in business. Many of their skills are transferrable to other professions.

I won a few free dance lessons once - I don't remember the specifics of how that happened, but I found myself in a dance studio. And realized, once again, what a clutz I am!

Successful negotiation does indeed take skill. I'm glad you had a successful negotiation this past week!

A little late to the party, but congratulations on your negotiating success, always a very good feeling to acheive what you set out to in negotiations.
