Discipline is a learned task. Not everyone is disciplined. It's a simple task to be disciplined with a routine we thoroughly enjoy.
As an example, I'm up very early every morning to prepare for my morning workout at the YMCA. That takes discipline. One of the guys I workout with constantly says "the toughest part of a workout is getting here." Oh how right he is!! It takes discipline just to get there, and once you're there, it all falls into place.
Apply that same principle to a task that you dread doing every day. It's hell, except 100 times worse. I'll never forget a comment I read from an ActiveRain member when I first joined.
I had just posted an open house "reminder" because I had already posted a series of open house events on Thursday in preparation for a Sunday open house. We were a few hours prior to the open house beginning, and the AR member commented that she too had an open house but didn't think of writing a post about it. So she decided to post one just before the event happened!!
That post was as useless as the "quick reminder" that I posted. The quality posts were posted days in advance, but I had prepared to do it. It was one of the many disciplined online routines that I needed to carve in stone to continue to make the phone ring. That discipline became a recurring routine because I made that happen.
How many real estate agents are disciplined with their marketing. All competitive sports require discipline. I continually read blog posts here that describe real estate as a competitive sport. Therefore, we know the marketing that makes the phone ring must be accomplished in a disciplined fashion.
My direct mail postcards are like clockwork. Within hours of a new listing submitted to MLS, the postcards are being printed. The same for a signed p & s for sale pending postcards, and a recorded deed prior to the closed postcard. Clockwork. Discipline. Focus. I could fill a page with the action words and learned skills required to market properly.
Just another thought for the moment…. Yes, pondering, Michael!!
