James Dray thanks, James... I let you in on a little secret... my birthday is actually tomorrow... so I can keep holding on to that 16. For some reason our daughter last night also said one night till I'm a year older... then, again, she thought she was a year younger than she actually is. Besides, this year I'm not having a birthday... I'm celebrating the 35th anniversary of my 35th birthday!

Good list...and packing away all the things seasonally you don't need will make for less work later.

Nina, I love the 30-day spring home cleaning challenge. It breaks it down into small achievable goals each day and that makes it so much easier to actually accomplish. 8 hours of cleaning in a day, sorry Oprah that's a little much and I'd probably be doing a terrible job by hour 4!

Nina, this is a great post of 30-days of spring cleaning your home. I have a cleaning person come in every two weeks. I do my oven, refigerator and cabinets, as well as windows, laundry, deck and porch. This year I am thinking of hiring someone to do the windows. The cost for 52 windows inside and out is around $500. And, to me it is worth every penny.

That is a great calendar/chore list and cleaning a home in 30 days is much better than trying to do it all in a few days.

Sally K. & David L. Hanson hi Sally... that's one good thing about living in Charlotte... fewer things need to be categorized as "seasonal."

Amanda S. Davidson Hi Amanda... I suspect one day plan works for Oprah because she's not the person doing the cleaning all day!  But it's not a bad concept even if you break that 8 hour exercise into two 4 hour days.

Hi Rebecca... my housekeeper also comes every other Monday. I have my screened and my front porch and steps professionally power washed every spring after the pollen has finished falling. Then I hose it down myself from time to time. No one touches laundry but me. As for windows... I have the outside cleaned professionally each year and the inside every other year. At this stage of my life doing windows is just beyond me!

Brian England hi Brian...it's one thing to do some daily maintenance cleaning/picking up each day, but a true seasonal top to bottom clean is hard to do in just a couple of days.

I read this and was going to use the elephant analogy you just mentioned in comment 30.  We used to have our windows done 2x year - but not now. Couldn't justify $800 each time. So now, I just wash 3 or 5 a day - for a week or so...lol.   It's not as bad as it sounds.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD hi Debb... thanks for the birthday wishes. As for washing windows... something I decided a few years ago at my "advanced" age I did not need to save money on by doing them myself.

Nice post, Nina Hollander!    I actually like to clean.  Never have hired a cleaning lady.  My oldest daughter bought me a cute Maid's outfit (probably after Halloween at a discount price as she is a thrifty shopper) and added it to my Christmas present gifts from her.   She loves to get me unusual, fun gifts along with nice traditionals!  It brought a smile to my husband's face:-)

Susan Hale thanks, Susan, for popping by. I gave up cleaning decades ago. But I do love organizing stuff and getting rid of uneeded things. Always makes me feel 5 pounds lighter when I'm done!
