Wordless Wednesday...That’s No Rain Cloud!!!

Several members have asked if we’d been impacted by the Deer Park fires that has been burning since Sunday at 10 am.

deer park fire

(Sorry for the fuzzy picture but a moving car doesn't make for clear photos. )

This is what we saw out of our car window as we were returning from breakfast Tuesday morning. I wasn’t sure what it was at first...we weren’t forecast to have any rain or fronts coming through.

It then occurred to me that what I saw was the plume of smoke from the fires at the ITC (International Terminals Company) in Deer Park. We’re about 46 miles (over an hour) north and west of where the fires are but could see it clearly today. And it was exactly as described...a plume coming from one source. There are currently 8 tanks still burning.

It was an amazing sight but I do feel so sorry for those families who live in the area near the plant.

I was happy to see they are near getting it under control. I was wondering outloud why they were not emptying the tanks closest to it?

That sky reminds me of last fall, when California was hit by so many wildfires.  We went several days of not seeing blue skies.

That is a plume that you will remember, and as you say those living nearby must have been seriously impacted.

This fire  has been in the national news.

Area residents need to be alert for the air quality...especially for seniors and children.

Morning Kathy.

I heard on the news this morning the fire has been extinguished.  I bet those who live near that plant are happy to hear that.

Kathy, stay safe. Perhaps you may need to wear a mask depending how bad the smoke is in your area. Hopefully, those right in the middle are safe.

Dear Kathy,

No fire is ever fun, but chemical fires are a lot more serious than forest fires, except maybe in California recently. Take care of yourself & remain watchful.
