It's a brave new world

If you haven't had the joy of taking your car into the dealership for more than an oil change... the kind of service where you need to leave it for a while, well... things may have changed a touch.

I had to have my glovebox repaired (it wouldn't close anymore), and in order to do that they have to take the whole dash apart... so they told me they'd give me a ride back to the office, while they work on it, and then they'll pick me up when it's ready.

Well.... they kept their word, but here's the new-age-kicker.

They called me an uber, both directions.

I guess it makes sense from their end... they don't have to hire add'l staff, they don't have to worry about extra fleet, gas, insurance, etc... and clients don't have to worry about any potential wait, in case their runners are out picking up other clients.

It truly is a brave new world.

Interesting use of a third company to fufil their service promise. Hopefully they ordered Uber Black for you, a higher level of service.

Alan,

Our dealership has a same brand loaner car for us.  It is free and the tank is usually full.  Just return it in the same condition, and they make sure you are insured.  A

Our local dealer provides gourmet coffee, WIFI. With service as small as oil change I had to remove the bottom panel from the car to have access to it. It needs programming as well. So I let them do it.

The other day, I saw a dis-spirited mail man at dealership. He made a gourmet coffee and took out two bottles of chill H2O bottles put one in each pocket.  He uttered that he was a service provider deserve respect also.

I'm glad my local dealership still does loaner cars.  Just got one last month, in fact.  Not an Uber fan.

Alan,

Very fun how the world has changed.  Our son travels for business, he never rents a car, just uses his Lyft.  He uses Uber for personal.  His way of keeping them separate.

All the best, Michelle

I take the time to wait and look at the new vehicles....sales folks don't bother me when I tell them my car is being worked on!  I will be buying a new car soon and it will be the same brand so this works.

That's interesting. My dealer will loan me a car (with advance notice). I think I like the loaner car better.

Good morning Alan. That is a different approach than I have experienced. Hope the glove box is better now.

Hi Alan- makes sense in a way! We used Uber on NYEve night when we landed in Florida. I was afraid that we wouldn't be able to find any kind of ride home but they were at the airport within 10 minutes.

Alan May - It IS a whole new world out there. I have not had this experience before. Nor have I used UBER.

Do tell - did you have to pay the Uber Driver or did the Dealership pick up the tab?
