Change one little word and change your day

This is a re-blog of something very important to chew on while you may or may not be eating breakfast this morning. Marte Cliff has a way with words that makes me think harder and she puts things into perspective. Just ONE little word can make a BIG difference.

How many times have you gotten up in the morning with a long list of “must do” tasks for the day?

How many times has that made you less than enthusiastic about getting busy and getting to work?

When you start in that frame of mind, you might slog through those tasks and accomplish a lot before the day ends, but you might not enjoy it much.

One little word can change your attitude – and perhaps change your whole day.

Instead of thinking “I have to,” think “I get to.”

You get to meet with a new seller. You get to show some homes. You get to work on a new blog post. You happy to "get to..."get to do a mailing. You get to prepare a market report. You get to sit at an open house.

After you’ve thought “I get to…” think about WHY you get to.

It’s because you have the health to get up out of bed and go. It’s because you have the intelligence to do the thinking, talking, and writing. It’s because there are people who desire your company.

Next, give thanks for those reasons.

Gratitude is a powerful magnet. The more you give thanks, the more you’ll have to be thankful for, so make it a habit.

A gratitude exercise that (I think) is fun and entertaining:

Take one thing, such as taking a shower, and give thanks for all the materials and people that made it possible for you to stand under that hot water. Start with nature – without water the rest of it wouldn’t matter.

You can do it with anything. How many people and materials can you be grateful for because you can go get in your car and drive away. How many can you thank because you can cook dinner tonight? How many can you thank because you can sit at your computer and interact with your friends in the Rain?

Almost anything you can think of will lead you to a long list of materials and people that had some part in you being able to use that object.
