Motivational Post for 3/24/19

by Patricia Feager

Spring is the time when many For Sales Signs pop up in neighbors yards. Like it or not, some people have a legitimate reason for selling. How can neighbors help?

  • Keep your yards clean to make this a welcoming neighborhood

  • If the suspense is killing you and you have to watch don't be conspicuous

  • Keep your grass mowed

  • Set your sprinkler systems to go off when there aren't any showings

  • If you see junk and newspapers at a vacant house, please pick it up

  • Picking up papers is exercise and makes the neighborhood more secure

  • Please don't walk your dogs and use the Seller's yard for your pet's business

  • Curious about what's going on? Contact the Listing Agent!

  • If you are a neighbor and just want to look, don't be afraid to say so during Open House

  • What's the Market like? Ask the Listing Agent or your own Agent!

  • Listing Agent has to abide by Fiduciary Rules & represents the Seller

  • Call the Agent & Police if something looks suspicious

  • Prospective Buyers are just as curious about the neighbors as you are!

  • Making a good impression works for everyone's best advantage!

  • Please don't engage in confidential information about Sellers to anyone

  • Do you have a concern? Please call or Text the Listing Agent

  • Be just as enthusiastic about new neighbors as they are about meeting you!

Ricki Eichler McCallum - It is only natural for neighbors to be curious. I don't think to send out "Just Listed" postcards is enough to satisfy the curiosity of interested neighbors who are being impacted by the sale of a home in their neighborhood.

From my perspective, keeping them involved with simple things they can do to attract good neighbors into their community is important for the quality of life they currently enjoy in their environment.

Thank you for your support!

Debra Leisek - What a nice compliment. I am humbled that you think that way of me and most appreciative for including what you think about me on my blog.

Neighbors can either expedite or hinder the sale of a home for sale. My philosophy is to treat them all fairly and share not what I can do for a seller, but what can they do to encourage the right buyer to buy into their neighborhood.

Thank you, Debra. I always think the world of you.

Patricia, this is fantastic. Too often, I think neighbors don't realize that they are part of the selling process of their neighbor's home too! Buyers buy not just a house, they buy (into) a neighborhood too!

Marney Kirk - I appreciate your sincere and meaningful comments. Neighbors can and do have the ability to consciously or unconsciously make, break, or postpone a sale. That is why I think it's so important to get to know the neighbors and not just rely on "Just Listed" postcards.

Scott Seaton Jr. Bourbonnais Kankakee IL Home Inspector -Good neighbors are keepers! They come into your lives without birthright. They don't have to be there in times of need but ask for help, and they'll be there!

Some of my fondest memories are of neighbors.

What a great post.  One more thing I would add is to keep your dogs quiet!  Nothing is more maddening than when showing a house and the dog(s) next door is barking like crazy.  That can actually kill a sale as buyers visualize themselves having to listen to the barking dogs when they want to enjoy their backyard!

Shirley Coomer - Oh yes!!! Keeping dogs quiet and on a leash is helpful! Wandering dogs or dogs that bark can easily turn potentially good new neighbors away in a flash!

I know a lot of people who claim their dog is so friendly and wouldn't hurt anyone. But what goes on behind the scenes when owners are not there is almost always a completely different story. Dogs, though cute and adorable are still territorial, protective, and can sense fear.

Patricia!  solid reminders!  I send something similar and I put dumpsters on streets that I 'farm' and neighbors can use for 'spring cleaning'

Blessing!

I really like your take on this, Patricia. Just recently, I had a buyer who's pretty private move into a very small home (her choice) in our Fishhawk Lake community. Two dear neighors of mine, both women, immediately (and kindly) introduced themselves, one bringing over a bottle of wine! By the afternoon that she moved in when I popped by, she'd met six neighbors already. AND she seemed joyful about it!

Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate - Curious Neighbors are often part of the giving crowd. When I first moved to Flower Mound, there was one neighbor a few doors down from me who went out of her way to welcome me into the neighborhood. As I got to know the others, I discovered the first lady who was a few doors down was affectionately called Mrs. Kravitz (from the show Bewitched).  As it turned out, that woman was the best neighbor and the first one to ask me to list her house when it was time to move. I'm glad I didn't avoid her or ever participate in calling her Mrs. Kravitz. She was the most caring person I ever knew.
