The 2019 Carlsbad 5000 is April 6 and 7 in Carlsbad CA
Carlsbad is home to a number of premier athletic events, including the Carlsbad 5000 which is reported to be the world’s fastest 5K run, with multiple world and US records set over the years, including current world records for men and women.
This event is now under new ownership and management for 2019 (Ashley Gibson and her company Groundwork Endurance purchased the race in 2018, and well-known local marathoner Meb Keflezighi joined her as a co-owner).
You can read more about this exciting change in the most recent Carlsbad magazine.
This internationally known and popular race will be held Sunday April 7th, the 34th year, with the Junior Carlsbad on Saturday the 6th!
There’s still time to register online.
The Carlsbad 5000 weekend, also nicknamed “Party by the Sea” because of all the festivities, is filled with activities and fun for the weekend, with the Junior Carlsbad (the 30th Anniversary) on Saturday; there are multiple races including a diaper dash, toddler trot, and other races up to a mile for kids 7 to 12.
Sunday offers the main 5K race with multiple categories of runners, and the All Day 20K!
Race Weekend fun continues with a Health and Fitness Expo in the Village, at the parking lot at Roosevelt and Carlsbad Village Drive, from 8 until 3 on Saturday and again on Sunday beginning at 7 am. You'll find samples, equipment, apparel, and more from multiple vendors.
And don’t miss the post-race celebrations on Sunday with live music and more, including 2 free beers from Pizza Port for participants in the beer garden (ages 21 and over with ID).
You can expect plenty of participants and spectators, so plan to arrive early to find parking in the Village and along the course to cheer on the runners. Keep in mind that, as with other Carlsbad races, there will be a number of road closures including the Coast Road.
